Hot off the presses...
Well not exactly hot off the presses, but fyi I just learned that the e-book/Kindle edition of BLOOD & INK is on sale right now for $2.99. WHAT A STEAL! Tell all your true crime and bargain-loving friends. And get ‘em while they’re hot, because that price is for a limited time only. Buy it here. (Thanks to ace crime-fiction/thriller author Megan Collins for flagging this. Go buy one of her books while you’re at it.)
What am I reading lately? THE IMPOSTER’S WAR by Mark Arsenault. I got hipped to this one last year from a Time excerpt I stumbled upon while working on my own Time excerpt. World War 1 espionage plot? Check. Fascinating con-man character? Check. Early 1900s newspaper titan you’ve never heard of? Check. I’m only about a hundred pages in but so far so good.
Also on my radar: The new season of Kate Winkler Dawson’s historical true-crime podcast TENFOLD MORE WICKED dropped this past Monday, a dark tale of murder and insanity in late-19th Century Texas. As a companion piece, you might want to dig into Skip Hollandsworth’s fantastic book THE MIDNIGHT ASSASSIN, another one of my favorites. The stories are related, both involving the infamous “Servant Girl Annihilator” killings of 1884-1885. Not gonna lie though I’m even more excited for Kate’s forthcoming audiobook, THE GHOST CLUB, about a paranormal London salon that attracted literary luminaries from Charles Dickens to Arthur Conan Doyle. It’s available for pre-order now. (But I do hope it eventually lands on Audible.)
I’ve got a couple fun projects of my own in the works, which I hope to tell you more about soon. For now, I’ll leave you to enjoy some classic coldwave because it is FUCKING FREEZING outside. More soon…
